55.9x45.7 cm ~ Painting, Oil
This painting grew out of the sense of the unseen dangers of a pandemic. There are built up random rough layers of oil paint with thinner layers scumbled on top. The random rough underlayment of the unseen and unpredictable element acts as a ground for the shadows of distorted and unbalanced figures. The uneven crust of the underlayment gives the appearance of the stresses threatening the figures. The figures appear to be headed in the direction of the undefined beyond the edge into the unknown. The colors are the brown derivatives of death and the earth we return to and the tints of red passion. The counterpoint of soothing hints of green are a sign of hope that life will continue.
