Without preconceived ideas, I applied thin layers of acrylic paint and added thick layers. I scraped back areas to reveal layers beneath. Once again, after drying, I added a thin layer of oil colors to accentuate the built up ridges and to express in their own way the growth in mystery, movement, and balance within the sense of change or the creative forces we do not see but experience just the same. I then added the poem to a detail of the painting.
See Not See
By Riley 2020
What we do not see
Is what is inside us,
the past as sure as the future.
What we do not see
is the black hole at the center,
drawing into itself
what is lost to balance
in the heavens.
What we do not see
is the connection
between savior
and the saved,
but it is there,
as sure as a lost heart
or the missed message of the heart
to speak to the invisible nuance
of more than a body;
to follow the thread of life
as we balance ourselves
in the empty place
of open acceptance,
a place in which eyes are opened
but tend to ignore
as we plummet through space
and no words answer
not even a whisper,
which opens the door to us.
