The Mundane Undermined (2017)

Contact

This painting no longer exists except as a print from a digital record. I started with moving thick layers of paint and built a textured surface. The painting evolved over many subsequent layers of thick and thin. I try to keep an open mind to discover what the medium leads me to. Sometimes I build a rough texture and other times I undermine or incorporate the texture with a soft layer. I think of painting as light revealing itself so I can end up with a sun in the painting. This in itself would be mundane, so it is undermined by texture and light not from the source in the painting. In a similar manner I incorporated death with what appears to be branches in a green background. A river of red flows through the painting. The red river breaks the monotony and gives it a strong form in a soft form.
